The Big Day...Introducing Adelaide Lyla Garner

Yay!!! The week leading up to this day was seriously so miserable. I had been doing a two week teaching block at Mound Fort Jr. High on 12th street. Dr. Sumsion almost decided to take the baby on that Thursday but decided to give me the betamethosone shot which would help the baby's lungs develop more quickly if she did come early. I am so glad he did that! Well, let's just say I was on strict bedrest supposedly. I was naughty and was trying my hardest to get done with all of my schoolwork since the next week was finals week.
Friday night I kept vomiting and couldn't even keep a teaspoon of water down. I was admitted Saturday morning at Davis Hospital for observation. I was severely dehydrated and they found that I had a Urinary Tract Infection that had also gone to my bladder. Yeah for bladder infections!!! Not. Well I had had no idea that I had a UTI. They think that I had had it for 3-4 weeks and not known it. Super fun, I remember. They pumped 4.5 liters of water into my system along with antibiotics.
For the past month or so before this, Dr. had put me on watch for something called the HELLP syndrome. It stands for Hemolytic anemia, Elevated Liver enzymes and Low Platelet count. It's related to Pre-Eclampsia. My levels had been up and down. So that Saturday, the nurses kept taking my blood to check my levels. They seemed okay, for now... I was supposed to stay there until I could have a good healthy pee. Twelve to thirteen hours later, they decided to let me go home after I let out a tiny weeny trickle and to come back if I hadn't peed by the next morning. All of the water that they put into me just went into my body tissue because of this syndrome thing because you also retain water with it really badly. So, it didn't really go through my system like it should have, which is why I couldn't go to the bathroom to the nurses' satisfaction! In the meantime, I missed the baby shower that was at Deven's mother's house. He was able to go to it for a little while, but I missed the whole thing because I was in the hospital. Oh well. I went over later that night and ate some food! Yummy. Then I had a really funny experience at Harmons with Deven and the speedracer shopping cart! Haha.
Sunday was miserable but I kept off my feet and didn't go to church. Then, Monday morning at about two o'clock, I woke up in such terrible pain. I couldn't believe how much pain I was in. I seriously wanted to die! My mom came over and I decided that I needed to go to the hospital. I knew something wasn't right. I didn't know if I was having back labor or what. Well, after getting checked in, I had an ultrasound and they discovered that I had kidney stones. I also was in minor labor because of the UTI and Bladder infection. They did not have me on the right antibiotic. They switched to a different one after they cultured my urine from Saturday. Well. Dr. Sumsion came to check on me and the of course did my blood work again. After getting the results, Dr. Sumsion told me how this level was fine, and that level was fine, and so on. I thought he was just going to send me home again and was about to start bawling. I was SOOOO miserable, I DID NOT WANT TO GO HOME!!!
After a lengthy explanation of all my levels were good, he told me that he was going to take the baby today because my blood platelets had dropped significantly. Deven was asleep on the couch this whole time Dr. Sumsion was there. I woke Deven up right after he said that we were going to have a baby today. He woke up so confused and asked how long he had been asleep! LOL. The Doc broke my water and put me on an IV, pitocin, and magnesium sulfate. The magnesium sulfate help with the HELLP and will help prevent me from having seizures during labor; however, pitocin induces labor and the mag stops labor. So they were fighting against each other. It made for a thirteen hour labor. Considering that and that it was my first delivery and they started me, it wasn't that bad.
We decided to name her Adelaide Lyla Garner. Born April 19, 2010 at 9:50PM She weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz. and was 20 in. She was 5 weeks early but was very healthy. She had to go to the NICU for a couple hours and was on oxygen for 10 minutes, but other than that she was fine. I was so sad when they had to take her from me! The stay in the hospital was crazy but okay. I got stressed a couple times but my sweet husband was there to help me through everything. Addie had a little bit of jaundice and had to be under the bililights from Wednesday to Friday morning. :-( Poor girl.

March 2010 Highlights

Our first anniversary! We went to Logan for the weekend and stayed at Providence Inn. We absolutely loved it. We also ate at the Coppermill which is where we had our wedding luncheon. I can't believe it's been a year, and now a year plus. I was pretty pregnant which is why this picture is more of our faces. :-) I didn't feel so great about pictures at this point. Haha. We had a fun time.

This was parting day with Courtney, Becky and Lauren. It was not my favorite day for sure. I got so used to them being at my parents. I would go hang out all the time. It was weird when they left. Miss you guys. Now it is almost time for you guys to come visit again!

It's a GIRL!!!

Of course...you probably already knew that. We found out on December 24, 2009 that we were going to have a baby girl. We are so excited. Deven and I went out to buy some little girlie stuff. We took the items and split them into two boxes and wrapped them up for Christmas presents. We didn't tell anybody what we were having until later that evening, unless they couldn't go to the Christmas Eve party. The family opened up the gift to find out what we were having. It was a lot of fun. Here are some of the ultrasound pics. Sorry it took so long to put up. They didn't scan very well, but oh well. We also have a video of the ultrasound, which has many more better shots.







We are now in the process of picking out what the nursery will look like. We have decided to go with a purple, green and cream color scheme. It's going to be so cute. There were absolutely no baby stores or catalogs that had crib quilt sets in those colors, so we had to be inventive. I picked a quilt inside JC Penny's which had the exact colors that I had had in mind...mind you, it's a queen. So, we'll (meaning my mom) cut the quilt up to make a baby crib quilt and bumper pads. We bought normal sheets that matched the quilt, we'll cut those up to make fitted crib sheets. Anyway, once the process starts going, I'll have to put some pictures up. We'll see if THAT ever happens. :-)

Names, names, names...we really like two names right now...Adelaide Lyla and London Rose. We are also trying to find some other options that we also like. Deven and I both want to see the baby before we make any decisions, so it will be good to have a few options. Anyone is welcome to make suggestions for names. :-) We bought a baby name book that is actually updated, unlike mom's. We decided to give our baby girl a code name, so we don't have to refer to her as "baby" or just "she", etc...we call her LadyBug! I know that it is quite silly, but there is some reasoning behind it.

I was going stir crazy not knowing the sex of the baby. I always had the intuition that it was going to be a girl, but I wasn't absolutely sure. I kept trying to figure it out...like somehow there was a way to really know unless we had an ultrasound...haha...but I kept trying to sort out my feelings. Well, I was walking out to my car after school one day and wishing that I could have some kind of sign, so I could find out. I felt like Korihor...haha. Anyway, right after I had that thought, I saw something on the ground that made me smile. There was a ladybug walking across icy snow in the middle of November! I laughed...I didn't really think it was a sign, but it was definitely funny. That is why we call her our little ladybug.

Grandma Smith...aka Smithers

I know this doesn't really count as an update. Today, Deven and I went to his mother's ward Christmas Breakfast. On the way there, we drove past grandma's old house. It has changed quite a bit. I always miss her, but especially during this season. I just wanted everyone who reads this to post a comment of one of their favorite memories of Grandma Smith.

We found out we were pregnant on Monday, September 7. I completely failed at keeping it quiet for a while. Haha...oh well. Anyway. My first prenatal appointment was on October 6, 2009. It was such a neat moment for Deven and me. We could see the heartbeat right off! It made things much more real for Deven, see things were already "Real" for me because I had been feeling pretty sick, but Deven has only had to hear me whine...not really THAT much. We are very much excited. I go in for my next appointment this coming Tuesday. This Tuesday, I will be 12 weeks and the baby is somewhere around 2 1/2 inches head-to-rump. I don't quite have a "baby bump" yet, but my tummy has thickened a little bit, really only noticeable to me. Sorry this is such a short post, but I bet you'll be glad all the same.
